Competition Details

ATTENTION INSTRUCTORS:
To maintain fairness and good sportsmanship for this and other KickStart Country events, any and all instructors are encouraged to compete in the HIGHEST level offered, including All Star/Instructor category if applicable, for their taught style AND dance type (line and/or partner). This ensures equal competition as well as highlights the instructors' expertise. Emphasizing mentorship and leadership, this approach fosters a supportive environment for both students and instructors alike. The highest level of competition category showcases the instructors' skills, contributing to the overall quality of the event. Please watch this video for deeper explanation.

SLOTTED SWING
Division: All Level
Type: Jack and Jill
Styles: Bar Coast, Lower Level West Coast Swing, etc

WEST COAST SWING
Non-Sanctioned competition
Division: Upper Level: Advanced dancers who regularly train in and/or compete in West Coast Swing Competitions
Type: Jack and Jill
Style: West Coast Swing

PROGRESSIVE FREESTYLE
Divisions: All Level, Beginner/Novice, Intermediate/Advanced
Types: 1. Strictly (Lifts Allowed) 2. Jack & Jill
Styles: One Step, Two Step, Half Step, Progressive Country Swing

TWO STEP
Divisions: All Level
Types: Jack & Jill
Styles: Progressive Two Step

ROUNDS
Number of rounds will be determined based on number of the competitors.

SCORING
There will be a panel of five-seven judges. They will be looking for:
1. Timing/Rhythm (Using the music provided)
2. Technique (Creating and maintaining safe connection with partner)
3. Musicality (Creativity to go with the music)
4. Teamwork (How well you and your partner dance together with connection)
5. Complexity/Variety of Patterns (Utilizing different movements to accentuate the music)

Country Swing Competition

The Country Swing Competition will be composed of multiple rounds.

DIVISIONS
1. Novice/Beginner
2. Intermediate/Advanced Belt Buckle
3. All Star/Instructor Belt Buckle
*The competitor will be responsible for choosing the division they'd like to compete in.
** If you are a current country swing dance instructor you MUST compete All Star/Instructor

TYPES
1. STRICTLY: dance with the partner of your choice. You are welcome to come with a partner, find someone at the event (lifts allowed).
2. JACK & JILL random partners selected (no lifts above the waist).

STYLE : Country Swing

ROUNDS
Each round will consist of 2-3 songs with 90 seconds of music. The number of rounds will be determined based on the number of couples.

SCORING
There will be a panel of five-seven judges. In Jack and Jill qualifying rounds, competitors will be judged individually inside their partnership. For finals, each couple will be judged as a unit. Judges will be looking for:

1. Timing/Rhythm (Using the music provided)
2. Technique (creating and maintaining connection with partner and clear stretch & somentum)
3. Musicality (Creativity to go with the music)
4. Teamwork (How well you and your partner dance together with connection)
5. Complexity/Variety of Patterns (Utilizing different movements to accentuate the music)

Line Dance Competition

The Line Dance Competition will be composed of multiple rounds. Competitors will be chosen by judges to advance to the next round. The top three finalists will be given their choice of prize package!

Rhinestone Division (50 yrs+)
You must choose between Beg/Nov OR Inter/Adv OR Rhinestone, you may not compete in both levels
You MAY additionally compete in Rhinestone if you are also competing in another category with the exception of All Star/Instructor
*If you are a current line dance instructor you MUST compete All Star/Instructor

ROUND
The first round will be a full song and the following rounds will depend on judges needs. Number of rounds will be determined based on number of the competitors.

SCORING
There will be a panel of five-seven judges. They will be looking for:
1. Dance Knowledge
(How well do you know and execute the correct steps to the dance)
2. Timing
(Stay on Count: Dancers will be judged on how well they dance with the music and stay on count with the beat and choreography)
3. Floor Presence
(Give us a show! Dances will be judged on how they showcase the dance utilizing energy, individual personality, and style)

The Edge Dance Event is proud to host the USLDCC! There will be 2 separate Line Dance Choreography Competitions: 1. USLDCC 2. Edge Specific

USLDCC

The USLDCC, United States Line Dance Choreography Championships, is a competition for amateur line dance choreographers.

Amateur, as defined by the USLDCC, is an individual who has never received any form of compensation (i.e. monies, accommodations, or travel fees) for teaching their own original choreography or co-choreography. This does not include “volunteering” as an instructor at workshops/events or teaching in the individual private class. See addition rules and details here.

Edge Specific
This competition is open to everyone. A song will be selected and all applicants will have the same amount of time to come up with original choreography. You decide the level the dance and complexity. Just show us how the music makes you want to move! Prelims will take place by video submission BEFORE Wednesday March 6th. SEND YOUR ENTRY TO TheEdgeDanceEvent@gmail.com . Finalist will showcase their routines in front of judges and the audience! The winner will have their dance showcase Saturday night and taught by instructor of your choice at YESSS!! Dance Convention or another KickStart Country Event! They will also receive a prize package!
